In the latest edition of ‘P.I. Pulse’, Pro Insight’s Matt McKay highlights a group of prospects from the third-annual Pro Insight Pop-Up Run, powered by Light the Game, in Portland, Oregon:

Top Pacific Northwest prospects congregated in Portland at Parkrose High School on Saturday, November 1 to participate in Pro Insight’s third-annual fall showcase event, which served as the initial foray into the event space for Light the Game, a nonprofit organization closely associated with Pro Insight.

The day began with NBA Draft Combine-style measurements, led by longtime NBA strength coach Bob Medina, followed by station work, a shooting competition, and a team development session, before culminating in 5-on-5 games that took center stage for the rest of the afternoon. The event programming was rounded out by a leadership development session led by Christopher Rivers (Chris Rivers RAPP), a countermovement jump station led by sports performance coach Nate Graham (ROKKE Performance Therapy), as well as agility testing ran by Coach Medina.

All on-court programming was once again led by Coach Beno Memory (Hoop Dreams Basketball), a veteran player development specialist. The event was made up of four teams, coached by Donald Watts (Watts Basketball), DJ Shaw (DJ Shaw Hoops), Marquis Matthews (Players Only), Beth Mounier (Mounshot Performance), Elijah Gonzales (Earned Over Given), Brian Barkdoll (former pro), Jelani Hicks (Dream Chaser Elite), and Alex Loul Syum (Flow State, former college coach).

In the final game of the day, Team 1 (3-0) capped off an undefeated run with a double-digit victory over Team 4 (2-1).

With national scouts on hand, a considerable number of the event’s participants boosted their stock with their play on Saturday and below, Pro Insight’s Matt McKay outlines a group of players who made an especially strong impression.

Pop-Up Run Stock-Boosters

Braylon Gaines

Nelson HS (OR) | 6’0” Guard | 2027 | 17.0 years old

Recruitment: Portland State, Western Oregon (offers)

Gaines possesses sneaky burst and excellent footwork, as he’s just as confident attacking the rack, creating for teammates, or showing off his shooting touch. Despite his size, his high motor, crafty playmaking, and ability to score from all three levels make him a tough matchup and a name to know in the 2027 class.

Jaden Ghoreishi

Mt. Spokane HS (WA) | 6’8.5” Forward | 2026 | 17.9 years old

Recruitment: Colorado State (committed)

Ghoreishi differentiates himself with his long, athletic frame and high motor, acting as a disruptive defensive presence with rim protection as well as the ability to switch thanks to his ability to cover ground with such ease. He continues to develop offensively, especially as a range shooting threat, while providing plenty of versatility on both ends. A steal for Colorado State.

Ethan Harris

Camas HS (WA) | 6’8” Forward | 2026 | 17.9 years old

Recruitment: Iowa (committed)

The Iowa City-bound Harris is a tough, vocal leader with a relentless motor. He runs the floor hard, fights for rebounds, and is a reliable shotmaker from multiple levels. His effort and grit make him a versatile player with a bright future – he should fit right in at Iowa.

Carter Lockhart

Nelson HS (OR) | 6’1” Guard | 2028 | 16.1 years old

Recruitment: San Francisco, Oregon (offers)

Lockhart is a vocal leader with a well-rounded offensive game — highlighted by his highly-effective range shooting, ball skills, and pace as a playmaker. His physical growth over the past year is noticeable, positioning him for a breakout sophomore year in his new surroundings at Nelson.

Donovan Miller

Central Catholic HS (OR) | 6’8” Forward | 2026 | 17.5 years old

Recruitment: Washington State, Portland State (interest)

The late-blooming Miller is a lanky, skilled wing who shoots it effortlessly, accurately and from deep. His size, touch and range alone bring a tremendous amount of value as a scalable piece at the next level.

James Thomas

Annie Wright HS (WA) | 5’10” Guard | 2029 | 15.1 years old

Thomas impresses with his court vision, assertiveness, and fearlessness while in attack mode. A sharp passer with developing mid-range ability and finishing craft, he’s a smart, confident playmaker with promising upside and NBA genes.

Marco Varani

Moravian Prep (NC) | 6’8” Wing | 2026 | 18.9 years old

Recruitment: Portland, Jacksonville State (offers); Boise State, Washington State, Seattle U, Arkansas-Little Rock (interest)

The fifth-year senior and Pro Insight event veteran is a smooth, scalable, elite movement shooter with NBA range and a quick release. As Varani continues to bulk up and gain confidence, he projects as a versatile, bouncy floor-spacer with big time upside as a transition finisher, defensive playmaker and versatile shotmaker.

Brian Webster

O’Dea HS (WA) | 6’3” Guard | 2026 | 18.7 years old

Recruitment: Portland (offer); Idaho, Seattle U, Montana, Columbia, Lafayette (interest)

The available senior plays bigger than his listed height and pops as an efficient, low-mistake player with good size and processing speed, capable of scoring from multiple levels and making smart plays. Webster's high BBIQ and overall effort/engagement level make him a trustworthy secondary playmaker with the ability to fill up a stat sheet.
