In the latest edition of ‘P.I. Pulse’, Pro Insight’s Houston Wilson connected with five-star 2027 Reese Alston, where the point guard discussed the latest with his recruitment:
After a strong summer showing, 2027 guard Reese Alston has become one of the more talked-about prospects on high-major recruiting boards. Pro Insight caught up with Alston to discuss his breakout offseason, recent visits, and what’s next as his recruitment heats up.
“I feel like I had a great summer,” Alston said. “I went to a lot of camps and was able to show out and showcase my full skill set. One of my biggest goals was to really put my name out there to college coaches and NBA scouts, and I think I did that really well. Now I’m just looking forward to building off that next summer.”
Alston carried that same energy into the fall, staying consistent through practices while also starting to take college visits.
“It’s been a productive fall so far,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of good school practices, and I’ve already taken a few visits. I’m also working on getting some more planned.”
One of his early fall visits was to Wichita State, which left a strong impression.
“It was a great visit,” Alston shared. “I really enjoyed meeting the coaching staff and seeing the connection they have with their players. That type of relationship is super important for any team, and they’ve built a really good culture there. The community around campus was great too.”
He also made a stop at Kentucky, where the tradition and atmosphere stood out.
“The history of Kentucky is obviously very appealing,” Alston said. “It’s a great school with an amazing campus and fan base. I really liked the sense of community there—it just feels like a special place.”
Next up for Alston is an unofficial visit to SMU, which offers the advantage of being close to home.
“I’m visiting SMU this weekend,” he said. “They’re starting to get more involved in my recruitment. They’ve got a whole new team this year with a few guys from Houston and Dallas that I know, so I’m excited to see how they do.”
Among the programs recruiting Alston, Purdue has been a consistent presence thanks to assistant coach PJ Thompson.
“We’re starting to build a really good relationship,” Alston said. “Coach PJ Thompson has been recruiting me since day one, and I really appreciate that. Purdue’s a great school, and you can tell how much their fans love basketball. They’ve built a program that’s always among the best in the country.”
Alston has also started connecting more with Texas head coach Sean Miller, a relationship strengthened by family ties and shared experience.
“I’m getting to know Coach Sean Miller better and better,” he said. “He and my dad have a good relationship, and I really respect the fact that he was a point guard himself. He’s put a lot of guys into the NBA, which is the ultimate goal for me, so I’m excited to visit and see what Texas is all about.”
When it comes to making a decision, Alston is clear about what will matter most.
“For me, it’s all about development,” he said. “Reaching the NBA is the ultimate goal, so I need to go somewhere that’s going to help me get there. I want to be at a program that’s serious about helping me grow on and off the court.”
